V. Umashankar is the son and disciple of the great maestro, the Grammy Award winner Shri Vikku Vinayakram. He started giving performances since the age of 10. Since then he has been playing with all top musicians in Carnatic, North Indian and western music. He has also given many Tala Vadya concerts, jazz and fussion in India, U.S.A., Europe, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Africa, and participated in many music productions. He has his own group named CHENNAI BLUES.
